Born in the Marche Region of Italy, and raised in Milano Francesco Tonelli is a food photographer with the ability to cook and style his own food. Appearing on the scene less than five years ago, Francesco arrived with an elite collection of skills and a lifelong relationship with food.
Over the course of twenty-five years, Francesco cooked in kitchens throughout ITALY, in SWITZERLAND, FRANCE and in CANADA before coming to the UNITED STATES (in 1997) to teach the art of food preparation to students at one of the most renowned culinary institutions in the world – THE CULINARY INSTITUTE OF AMERICA. There he spent eight years as an ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN CULINARY ARTS commanding the highest standards of students to inspire respect and professionalism in young chefs anxious to make their mark in the exciting and fashionable, yet often unforgiving world of food.
Then in 2005, armed with his own creative skill set honed from more than seven years as a RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CHEF and FOOD STYLIST in ITALY for LA CUCINA ITALIANA & TUTTOCUCINA, Francesco, inspired to return to his creative work, then left teaching to begin freelance consulting in the world of corporate food concept development. On these projects, Francesco was called upon to create, prepare, style and often photograph a broad range of food and flavor concepts – concepts both newly innovated and steeped in tradition.
Rapid change was at hand, however, as the digital revolution swept across the world of media. Deeply passionate and versed in the latest computer technology, Francesco embraced this change by stepping behind his own camera to take full control of his food imagery. From design concept to preparation to styling, digital capture and post processing, Francesco found himself soon offering clients a skill set virtually unmatched by any of his contemporaries.
Through Francesco, a marriage of passion for food with passion for technology has indeed created a fusion of unlikely complements, which has proven to benefit both editorial and commercial clients alike and has rendered him a formidable artist.
